Alumiiniumoksüül is a less common term that refers to aluminum oxide, also known as alumina. Aluminum oxide is a chemical compound of aluminum and oxygen with the chemical formula Al2O3. It is an amphoteric oxide, meaning it can react with both acids and bases. Naturally, aluminum oxide is found in the mineral corundum, which is known for its hardness and is used as an abrasive. When purified, aluminum oxide is a white, crystalline solid.

Alumiiniumoksüül is an exceptionally hard material and has a high melting point, making it useful in a variety of industrial applications. It is widely used in the manufacturing of ceramics, refractories (materials that resist heat), and abrasives like sandpaper and grinding wheels. High-purity forms of aluminum oxide, such as sapphire and ruby, are transparent and used in lenses and lasers.
