AlteransLanteans

AlteransLanteans is a term used in discussions of the Stargate fictional universe to describe the ancient, highly advanced humanoid race known across the series as the Ancients. The two regional names—Alterans in the Milky Way and Lanteans in Pegasus—refer to the same lineage, which community sources sometimes unite under this combined label.

Origins and identity

In the Milky Way, these beings are typically called the Alterans or the Ancients. They achieved extreme technological and metaphysical advancement, including the ability to ascend to higher planes of existence. They are credited with developing the Stargate network and seeding life and civilization on multiple worlds, including early human populations on Earth.

Diaspora and Pegasus

A portion of the Ancient people migrated to the Pegasus Galaxy, where they are known as the Lanteans. In Pegasus, they established the city of Atlantis on the planet Lantea. The Lanteans continued to push the boundaries of science, exploration, and defense against the native threats of Pegasus, notably the Wraith.

Legacy and technology

The Alterans/Lanteans left a lasting legacy in both galaxies. Their technologies, such as Stargates, Zero Point Modules (ZPMs), and other advanced artifacts, shape the capabilities of later human civilizations in the Stargate franchise. Ascension remains a central theme, with many Ancients existing as Ascended beings after transcending physical form.

In canon, the terms Alterans and Lanteans describe regional branches of the same ancient race, while AlteransLanteans is primarily a fan-usage shorthand that highlights their shared heritage across the Milky Way and Pegasus.
