Alphaactinin4
Alpha-actinin-4, also known as ACTN4, is a protein-coding gene. The protein it encodes is a member of the alpha-actinin family of actin-binding proteins. These proteins are essential components of the cytoskeleton, playing a crucial role in muscle structure and cell adhesion. Alpha-actinin-4 specifically localizes to the Z-lines of sarcomeres in skeletal and cardiac muscle. In non-muscle cells, it is found in stress fibers and focal adhesions. Its primary function is to bundle actin filaments, thereby contributing to the mechanical stability and organization of the cellular cytoskeleton. Alpha-actinin-4 is thought to be involved in processes such as cell migration, cell spreading, and maintaining cell shape. Mutations in the ACTN4 gene have been associated with certain human diseases, including some forms of kidney disease.
