Allergeenin

Allergeenin is a concept that refers to a substance that can trigger an allergic reaction. These reactions occur when the immune system of an individual, which is usually responsible for fighting off infections, mistakenly identifies a normally harmless substance as a threat. Upon initial exposure, the immune system may become sensitized, producing specific antibodies, typically IgE, against the allergen. Subsequent exposures to the same allergen then lead to the release of chemicals like histamine from immune cells, causing a range of symptoms.

Common allergens include pollen from plants, dust mites, certain foods like peanuts and dairy, insect venom, and some medications. The body's response to allergens can manifest in various ways, affecting different parts of the body. These can include skin reactions such as hives or eczema, respiratory symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, or asthma, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis, a life-threatening systemic reaction. The severity of allergic reactions can vary greatly from mild discomfort to critical illness. Identifying and avoiding allergens is a primary strategy for managing allergies, and treatments often involve antihistamines or other medications to control symptoms.
