Alipäästökykyä

Alipäästökykyä, often translated as "low-pass capability" or "low-pass performance," refers to the ability of a system or device to allow low-frequency signals to pass through while attenuating or blocking high-frequency signals. This is a fundamental concept in signal processing and electrical engineering, particularly relevant in filter design.

A system exhibiting alipäästökykyä acts as a frequency-selective circuit. Its primary function is to separate desired low-frequency components from unwanted high-frequency noise or interference. For example, in audio systems, a low-pass filter with good alipäästökykyä can remove high-pitched static or hiss from a music recording, preserving the bass and mid-range frequencies. In telecommunications, it can be used to isolate a specific frequency band from others.

The effectiveness of a system's alipäästökykyä is determined by its cutoff frequency. This is the frequency at which the signal power is reduced by half, or by 3 decibels. Below the cutoff frequency, signals pass through with minimal attenuation, while above it, attenuation increases.
