Algerian

Algerian is the demonym for people from Algeria and an adjective describing things related to the country, its people, or its culture. Algeria is a North African nation on the Mediterranean coast, bordered by several countries and featuring large portions of the Sahara Desert. The capital and largest city is Algiers.

The Algerian population is ethnically diverse, with a long history of Arab and Berber ( Amazigh) cultures blending together. Major Berber groups include Kabyle, Chaoui, and Mozabite communities. Arabic is the official language, with Tamazight (Berber languages) also official since 2016; French is widely used in education, media, and daily life, and Algerian Arabic (Darija) is the most commonly spoken form of daily speech.

Historically, Algeria was part of various empires before becoming a French colony in the 19th century. It gained independence after a protracted war of independence, culminating in 1962. The modern state is a republic with a diverse cultural scene shaped by Islam as the predominant religion and a history of political and social movements.
