Albuminkonzentrationen, also known as albumin levels, refers to the amount of albumin present in the blood. Albumin is the most abundant protein found in blood plasma, produced by the liver. It plays a crucial role in maintaining oncotic pressure, which helps keep fluid within the blood vessels. It also acts as a carrier for various substances, including hormones, fatty acids, bilirubin, and drugs. Measuring albuminkonzentrationen is a common laboratory test used to assess liver function and nutritional status, as well as to identify certain kidney disorders.

Normal albuminkonzentrationen typically range from 3.5 to 5.0 grams per deciliter (g/dL). Low albuminkonzentrationen, or hypoalbuminemia, can indicate several underlying health issues. Liver disease is a primary cause, as a damaged liver may not produce enough albumin. Malnutrition or malabsorption can also lead to low levels, as the body lacks sufficient protein for albumin synthesis. Kidney diseases, particularly nephrotic syndrome, can cause albumin to be lost in the urine, resulting in decreased blood levels. Other causes include chronic inflammation, certain cancers, and severe burns.

Conversely, high albuminkonzentrationen, or hyperalbuminemia, are less common and usually indicate dehydration, where the concentration of albumin increases due to a lack of fluid. It can also be seen in conditions with excessive protein intake, though this is rare. Interpreting albuminkonzentrationen requires consideration of the patient's overall clinical picture and other laboratory findings.
