Albox

Albox is a municipality located in the province of Almería, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It is situated in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. The town lies in the Almanzora Valley, an area historically known for its agricultural production and mining.

The history of Albox stretches back to prehistoric times, with evidence of settlements in the surrounding area. During the Roman period, the region was significant for its mineral resources. The most notable historical influence in Albox, as with much of southern Spain, came from the Moors. The town's origins as a settlement are often traced to the Arab era, with the name "Albox" possibly deriving from an Arabic word meaning "the castle" or "the tower," referencing a defensive structure that once stood there. After the Reconquista, the area was repopulated and continued to develop.

Economically, Albox has traditionally relied on agriculture, particularly olives and citrus fruits, and historically, mining.
