The term originates from the idea of building complex grammatical structures from simpler, more basic elements.

In Hungarian, nouns are modified by various suffixes to indicate their grammatical case, such as nominative, accusative, genitive, or dative. The "alapanyaghoz" construction is often used to describe the process of adding these suffixes to the base form of a noun, known as the "alapanyag" (base form or stem). For example, the base form of the word "ház" (house) is "ház," but when combined with the suffix "-hoz" (to/for), it forms "házhoz," meaning "to the house" or "to a house."
