Aktivitätsfinalknoten, also known as activity final nodes, are a specific type of node used in activity diagrams within the Unified Modeling Language (UML). Their primary function is to represent the termination point of an activity or a specific part of an activity. When an activity reaches an Aktivitätsfinalknoten, it signifies that the execution of that particular path or the entire activity is complete.

There are two main types of Aktivitätsfinalknoten. The first is the flow final node, which terminates the flow of control within a single outgoing path of an activity. If an activity has multiple outgoing paths, reaching a flow final node on one path does not necessarily end the entire activity. The second type is the activity final node, which terminates the entire activity. When an activity final node is reached, all actions within the activity cease, and the activity is considered completed.

Aktivitätsfinalknoten are crucial for clearly defining the end states of activities in a model. They help in understanding the lifecycle and completion criteria of different processes. Without them, it can be ambiguous when an activity is truly finished, especially in complex diagrams with branching and parallel flows. Their presence ensures that the diagram accurately reflects the intended behavior and termination points of the modeled activities.
