Aksjeandeler
Aksjeandeler, often translated as stock splits, is a corporate action where a company divides its existing shares into multiple shares. This is done to increase the number of outstanding shares and decrease the price per share. The total market value of the company remains the same immediately after the split. For example, if a company has 1 million shares trading at $100 each, its market capitalization is $100 million. If the company enacts a 2-for-1 stock split, the number of shares doubles to 2 million, and the price per share is halved to $50. The market capitalization remains $100 million.
Companies typically undertake stock splits when their share price has risen significantly, making it appear expensive
Stock splits can be of various ratios, such as 2-for-1, 3-for-1, or even more complex ratios depending
