AhleHadith

Ahle Hadith, also spelled Ahl-i Hadith, is a movement within Sunni Islam that emphasizes the Quran and the Hadith (sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad) as the primary sources of Islamic law and theology. The movement emerged in the Indian subcontinent in the 19th century. Ahle Hadith scholars and adherents believe in the absolute authority of the Hadith and strive to follow the traditions of the Prophet and his companions directly, often rejecting later interpretations or traditions they deem to be innovations or not firmly rooted in the scriptural sources.

The movement advocates for a return to what they consider the pristine form of Islam, free from the influence of local customs or later scholarly schools of thought (madhhabs). This often leads them to differ with other Islamic sects on various jurisprudential matters. They tend to be more literal in their interpretation of religious texts. The Ahle Hadith movement is not a monolithic entity and encompasses a range of views within its broad framework. It has a significant presence in South Asia and has spread to other parts of the world through migration and missionary efforts.
