Affiksimuodot

Affiksimuodot refer to the surface forms that an affix can take in a language. An affix is a bound morpheme that attaches to a word stem to indicate grammatical or derivational meaning, and affiksimuodot describe the different phonological or allomorphic realizations this morpheme can display across contexts.

The study of affiksimuodot encompasses morphophonology and allomorphy. A single affix may have several allomorphs—variant shapes that represent the same underlying morpheme. These variants are conditioned by phonological context, neighboring sounds, or larger morphological rules. Sometimes an affix has a zero form, meaning it leaves no phonetic trace in certain environments.
