Aerosolisation

Aerosolisation is the process by which a substance is dispersed into the air as tiny particles or droplets suspended in a gas. This can occur through various natural and artificial methods. Naturally, aerosolisation can happen during volcanic eruptions, when dust is lifted by wind, or when water evaporates from surfaces, carrying dissolved substances into the atmosphere. In artificial settings, aerosolisation is achieved through devices like atomizers, nebulizers, and spray cans. These technologies break down liquids or solids into fine particles, allowing for their dispersion.

The size of the aerosol particles is a critical factor, influencing their behavior and potential effects. Very small particles, typically less than 10 micrometers in diameter, can remain suspended in the air for extended periods and can be inhaled deep into the respiratory system. Larger particles tend to settle out of the air more quickly. Aerosolisation has numerous applications across different fields.
