Adullamite

Adullamite refers to a follower or inhabitant of Adullam. The ancient city of Adullam is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, notably in the Books of Samuel. It was a significant location during the time of King Saul and later King David.

The most prominent mention of Adullamites in a collective sense relates to David. When David was fleeing from King Saul, he sought refuge in the cave of Adullam. At that time, the Bible states that everyone who was in distress, in debt, and discontented gathered around David, and he became their commander. These individuals are often referred to as Adullamites, signifying their association with David in his time of hardship and exile. This group formed the nucleus of David's loyal followers before he became king.

The term "Adullamite" can therefore signify not just someone from the geographical location of Adullam, but also a member of David's early band of warriors and followers who found solace and leadership with him in the cave of Adullam. This association imbues the term with a sense of loyalty, resilience, and a shared experience of being outcasts or those in difficult circumstances who rally around a common cause or leader.
