Acetalacetalization
Acetalacetalization is a term sometimes encountered in organic chemistry to describe processes related to acetals formed under acid catalysis, or to the exchange of alkoxy groups between acetals. In practice, two related ideas are involved: acetalization, the formation of acetals (or ketals) from aldehydes or ketones and alcohols, and transacetalization, the exchange of alkoxy groups between acetals or between an acetal and an alcohol. The more common terms are acetalization for formation and transacetalization for exchange.
