Absorptiojärjestelmissä

Absorptiojärjestelmissä refers to absorption systems in Finnish. These systems are designed to remove specific substances from a fluid, typically a gas or liquid, by dissolving them into another substance, known as the absorbent. The process relies on the principle of mass transfer, where the component to be removed (solute) has a higher affinity for the absorbent than for the original fluid (carrier).

In many industrial applications, absorption systems are used for gas purification. For example, in chemical plants, flue gases might be treated to remove harmful pollutants like sulfur dioxide or carbon dioxide using liquid absorbents. The polluted gas is brought into contact with the absorbent, usually in a packed column or a tray tower, where the pollutant dissolves into the absorbent. The cleaned gas then exits the system, and the absorbent, now enriched with the pollutant, can be further processed. This processing might involve regenerating the absorbent, for instance, by heating it to release the captured pollutant, allowing the absorbent to be reused.

Liquid-liquid absorption systems also exist, where a component from one liquid phase is transferred into another immiscible liquid phase. This is often used in separation processes in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The efficiency of an absorption system is determined by factors such as the solubility of the solute in the absorbent, the contact area between the phases, temperature, and pressure. The choice of absorbent is crucial and depends on the specific substance to be removed and the operating conditions.
