These are typically the programs that students complete to earn a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. The term encompasses both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

In Germany, Bachelorstudiengängen are the first-cycle degrees, usually taking three to four years of full-time study. They provide foundational knowledge and skills in a specific field. Following a Bachelor's, students can pursue a Masterstudiengang, which is a second-cycle degree. Master's programs offer more specialized knowledge and advanced research opportunities, typically lasting one to two years. The final level of academic study is the Doktorat (doctorate), which involves independent research and the writing of a dissertation.

Abschlussstudiengängen are offered at universities (Universitäten) and universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen), with the latter often focusing more on practical application. The structure and requirements for these programs are regulated by national and state laws. Successful completion of an Abschlussstudiengang results in the award of a recognized academic title, which is often a prerequisite for professional careers or further academic pursuits.
