Abrosaurus

Abrosaurus is a genus of sauropod dinosaur from the Late Jurassic period, found in Sichuan, China. Its name means "delicate lizard." The type species, Abrosaurus dongpoi, was described by Ouyang in 1989. Only a partial skeleton, including skull elements, has been recovered.

Abrosaurus was a relatively small sauropod, estimated to be around 30 feet (9 meters) long. Its skull shows some unique features, including a relatively flat skull roof and a long, narrow snout. The teeth were leaf-shaped and suitable for stripping vegetation. Like other sauropods, Abrosaurus likely walked on four legs and had a long neck and tail.

The discovery of Abrosaurus in the Shaximiao Formation provides insights into the sauropod diversity present in East Asia during the Late Jurassic. Its remains were found alongside other dinosaur fossils, painting a picture of the ecosystem at that time. Despite its fragmentary nature, Abrosaurus remains an important find for understanding the evolution of sauropods in this region. Further discoveries may shed more light on its specific relationships within the sauropod family tree.
