Abrasiverne

Abrasiverne is a term used in the industrial sector to refer to a family of synthetic abrasive materials designed for surface finishing, cutting, and grinding. The name is sometimes used as a generic brand by multiple manufacturers and may denote several distinct compositions grouped by their abrasive grains and binding systems.

Most Abrasiverne products use hard crystalline grains such as fused alumina (aluminum oxide) or silicon carbide, configured in various grain sizes. The grains are usually embedded in a bonding matrix, which can be vitrified, resin, or ceramic. These abrasives are valued for high hardness, good wear resistance, and the ability to retain sharp cutting edges at high speed and elevated temperatures. Grains range from coarse to very fine, enabling tasks from heavy material removal to fine polishing.

They are produced by high-temperature fusion or controlled precipitation processes and sold as loose abrasives, or incorporated into bonded tools such as grinding wheels, abrasive discs, sanding belts, and polishing compounds.

They are used in metalworking, including steel and alloy fabrication, as well as in ceramics, glass, stone, and composite materials. They support operations such as deburring, beveling, leveling, and surface finishing.

Handling requires dust control and personal protective equipment; long-term exposure to fine dust should be mitigated. Waste materials should be managed according to local regulations.
