ATMRFC

ATMRFC stands for the Australian Telescope Compact Array Radio Astronomy Facility. It is a major radio astronomy observatory located near Narrabri in New South Wales, Australia. The facility comprises six 22-meter diameter parabolic dish antennas. These antennas can be moved along a 1.4 kilometer track, allowing them to form a very long baseline interferometer. This interferometric capability enables astronomers to achieve very high angular resolution, equivalent to that of a single telescope much larger than any of the individual dishes.

The ATMRFC is a key instrument for the Australia Telescope National Facility, which is operated by CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science. It conducts a wide range of astronomical observations, studying objects from within our own solar system to the most distant galaxies. Researchers use the ATMRFC to investigate phenomena such as star formation, the evolution of galaxies, pulsars, and the large-scale structure of the universe. The observatory is also accessible to international astronomers, fostering global collaboration in radio astronomy research. Its location in a radio quiet zone helps to minimize interference, ensuring the quality of its observations.
