ASILEinstufungen refers to the classification or categorization of asylum seekers within the German asylum system. This process is crucial for determining the appropriate legal status and the rights and benefits an asylum seeker is entitled to. The classification is not a single, static event but rather a series of assessments that can evolve throughout the asylum procedure.

Initially, upon arrival and registration, an asylum seeker is assigned a preliminary status. This is often based on their country of origin and the general security situation there. Following a formal application for asylum, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) conducts an individual interview. During this interview, the applicant's personal history, reasons for fleeing, and any potential persecution are thoroughly examined.

Based on the interview and available country information, the BAMF makes a decision on the asylum application. This decision can result in different classifications, such as recognition as a refugee under the Geneva Convention, subsidiary protection, or a ban on deportation for humanitarian reasons. Each classification carries specific rights regarding residence, work permits, social benefits, and the duration of their stay in Germany. It is also possible for an application to be rejected, leading to an obligation to leave the country. The classification can be reviewed and potentially changed if circumstances change.
