ARHGDIB (ADP Ribosylation Factor Homolog-Dependent Inositol Polyphosphate Phosphatase-like 1)

ARHGDIB, also known as ADP ribosylation factor homolog-dependent inositol polyphosphate phosphatase-like 1, is a protein encoded by the ARHGDIB gene located on the long arm of chromosome 19 (19q13.3). This gene belongs to the family of inositol polyphosphate phosphatases, which play crucial roles in signal transduction and cellular metabolism by regulating phosphoinositide signaling pathways.

The ARHGDIB protein functions as a phosphatase that dephosphorylates inositol phosphates, including IP3 (inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate) and IP4 (inositol 1,3,4,5-tetrakisphosphate). This activity helps modulate intracellular calcium signaling, cytoskeletal dynamics, and cell adhesion processes. Dysregulation of ARHGDIB has been implicated in various physiological and pathological conditions, including cancer progression, immune responses, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Structurally, ARHGDIB shares homology with other inositol polyphosphate phosphatases, including the well-studied ARHGDI (also known as GDI1 or GDI-1), which is involved in the regulation of Rho family GTPases. However, ARHGDIB lacks the GTPase-activating domain found in many Rho GTPases, distinguishing it from its related family members.
