AMradioutsändning, or AM radio broadcasting, is a method of radio communication that uses amplitude modulation (AM) to encode information. In AM broadcasting, the amplitude of a carrier wave is varied in proportion to the amplitude of the modulating signal, which is the audio signal to be transmitted. This results in a signal that has a constant frequency but varying amplitude.

AM broadcasting is one of the oldest forms of radio broadcasting, with the first regular AM radio broadcasts beginning in the early 20th century. AM radio waves have longer wavelengths and lower frequencies compared to FM radio waves, typically ranging from 535 kHz to 1705 kHz in the medium wave band, and from 1.6 MHz to 12 MHz in the shortwave band.

AM broadcasting is widely used for transmitting audio signals, including music, news, and talk shows. It is particularly effective for transmitting signals over long distances and is often used for international broadcasting. However, AM broadcasting is more susceptible to interference and static compared to FM broadcasting, which uses frequency modulation to encode information.

AM broadcasting has been largely replaced by FM broadcasting in many countries due to its superior sound quality and resistance to interference. However, AM broadcasting remains in use for certain applications, such as emergency broadcasting and long-range communication.
