AF6
AF6 is an alphanumeric designation used in different fields. In biology, AF6 commonly refers to the afadin protein, also known as AF-6, a cytoplasmic adaptor protein involved in cell–cell adhesion at adherens junctions. The protein is encoded by the AFDN gene. Afadin exists in multiple isoforms and coordinates interactions among nectins, cadherins, and the actin cytoskeleton, contributing to the formation and maintenance of adherens junctions, cell polarity, and signal transduction. In development and disease, abnormal afadin expression or function has been linked to impaired tissue organization and cancer progression.
Outside biology, AF6 serves as a model or catalog number in various engineering and consumer-product contexts.
