AEMET

AEMET, the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología, is Spain's national meteorological service. It provides weather forecasts, warnings, climate information, and other meteorological data for Spain and its territories, including the Balearic and Canary Islands. As a public government agency, AEMET coordinates with European and global meteorological organizations to support public safety, economic planning, and scientific research.

The agency traces its origins to Spain's historical meteorological services and was reorganized in the 2000s to form the current agency. It operates a network of observation systems, including weather stations, radar, and satellites, and maintains climatological and hydrological records. AEMET also oversees meteorological services for aviation, maritime activities, agriculture, and other sectors that rely on weather information.

AEMET produces a range of products, from short- and medium-range forecasts to seasonal outlooks and severe weather warnings. These are disseminated through its website, mobile apps, broadcast media, and official bulletins. In addition to routine forecasts, the agency provides climate data and analyses, historical records, and tools for risk assessment and adaptation to climate variability and change.

Internationally, AEMET participates in networks coordinated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and EUMETNET, and collaborates with European and global forecast centers such as ECMWF to access and contribute to global numerical weather prediction models. Data and forecasts are accessible to the public, media, researchers, and institutions to support planning, safety, and informed decision-making.
