407823
407823 is a main-belt asteroid that was discovered on 14 April 2001 by the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) survey at the W. M. Keck Observatory. The asteroid was first observed in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) photographic plates and received the provisional designation 2001 TE. It was later assigned the permanent number 407823 after its orbit was well established. The body is located in the inner part of the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Its orbital parameters are: semi-major axis 2.26 astronomical units, eccentricity 0.13, inclination 5.2 degrees. The orbital period is approximately 3.4 Earth years. 407823 has an estimated diameter of 4.8 kilometers, based on an assumed albedo of 0.18, derived from infrared observations obtained by the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE). The asteroid's spectral type is S-type, indicating a silicate-rich composition common to many S-type members of the inner belt. The minor planet does not have a formal name; it remains known by its numerical designation until a discoverer proposes a name and it receives approval from the International Astronomical Union. As of the latest data, its absolute magnitude is 15.6.
