3GPPjärjestö

3GPPjärjestö, officially the 3rd Generation Partnership Project, is a global collaboration of telecommunications standards organizations. Its primary purpose is to develop and maintain the technical specifications for mobile telecommunications systems. These specifications form the basis for the technologies that power the mobile networks we use today, including 4G LTE and 5G.

The project was established in December 1998, initially to develop third-generation (3G) mobile systems. However, it has since evolved to cover subsequent generations of mobile technology. 3GPP is not a single entity but rather a partnership. The founding members are seven regional standardization bodies from around the world, including ARIB and TTC from Japan, ATIS from North America, CCSA from China, ETSI from Europe, TTA from Korea, and TSDSI from India.

These partner organizations contribute their expertise and resources to the development process. 3GPP works through a series of Working Groups (WGs) that focus on specific technical areas, such as radio access, core network, and services. The decisions and specifications are made through consensus among the delegates from member companies and organizations. The output of 3GPP's work is a set of globally recognized standards that ensure interoperability and a consistent user experience across different mobile devices and networks worldwide.
