The asteroid was first observed in 2000 by the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) survey at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Its provisional designation was 2000 SA34 before it received its permanent number. The discovery was confirmed by subsequent observations conducted by the Minor Planet Center.
