10478 is a minor planet located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, discovered on April 18, 1981. The Minor Planet Center, which is responsible for tracking and cataloging minor planets, assigned the number 10478 to this object.

Little is known about the source and purpose of the designation 10478. Like all other minor planets, it is given a discoverer and discovery date: when it was first detected by the asteroid hunter Brian A. Skiff. Minor planets are named according to a strict set of rules devised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).

10478 is a member of the largest minority in the asteroid belt's population of small celestial bodies, constituting over 99% of the observable asteroids in the inner asteroid belt region. Approximately 100,000 of these small bodies are thought to be around 1 kilometer in diameter, and total number of larger ones may not exceed in total thousands.

Object 10478, as numerous asteroid with astronomical number, is several decades away from being detected for a second time and be permanently added to accurate transpantranter planet.
