Donation-based crowdfunding involves people giving money without expecting anything tangible in return, often for charitable causes or personal emergencies. Reward-based crowdfunding offers backers a product, service, or experience in exchange for their contribution. This is common for creative projects like films, music albums, or new product launches. Equity-based crowdfunding allows investors to receive shares or ownership in the company they are funding. Debt-based crowdfunding, or peer-to-peer lending, involves individuals or businesses borrowing money from a crowd, with the expectation of repayment with interest.

Ühisrahastamine platforms have democratized access to capital, enabling entrepreneurs and creators who might not qualify for traditional bank loans or venture capital to bring their ideas to life. It also allows the public to directly support causes and innovations they believe in. However, it carries risks, including the possibility of projects failing to launch, misrepresentation by fundraisers, and potential losses for investors in equity-based models.
