õhukihtidest is the Estonian term for atmospheric layers. The Earth's atmosphere is divided into several distinct layers, primarily based on temperature variations. The lowest layer, closest to the surface, is the troposphere. This is where most weather phenomena occur and where human life exists. Above the troposphere lies the stratosphere, which contains the ozone layer that absorbs most of the Sun's ultraviolet radiation.

Continuing upwards, we find the mesosphere, where temperatures decrease with altitude. Above the mesosphere is the thermosphere, characterized by rapidly increasing temperatures due to absorption of high-energy solar radiation. Within the thermosphere, the ionosphere, a region of ionized gases, plays a crucial role in radio wave propagation. Finally, the outermost layer is the exosphere, which gradually fades into outer space. These layers are not sharply defined but rather transition zones. The composition and properties of each layer are vital for understanding atmospheric processes, climate, and phenomena like the aurora.
