Ääniparametrit refer to the quantifiable characteristics that describe a sound. These parameters are essential in fields such as acoustics, audio engineering, music synthesis, and speech processing for analysis, manipulation, and generation of sound.

The most fundamental parameter is frequency, which determines the perceived pitch of a sound. It is measured in Hertz (Hz) and represents the number of cycles a sound wave completes per second. Amplitude, another key parameter, relates to the intensity or loudness of a sound, often measured in decibels (dB). A higher amplitude corresponds to a louder sound.

Timbre, often described as the "color" or quality of a sound, is determined by the complex interplay of harmonics and overtones present in addition to the fundamental frequency. These overtones, which are multiples of the fundamental frequency, contribute to the unique character of different instruments or voices. Envelope parameters, such as Attack, Decay, Sustain, and Release (ADSR), describe how the amplitude of a sound changes over time from its initial onset to its fading out.

Other important parameters include phase, which describes the position of a point in time on a waveform cycle, and spatial characteristics like stereo width and reverberation, which define the perceived position and environment of a sound source.
