Þrymrs
Þrymrs is a figure from Norse mythology, specifically appearing in the poem Þrymskviða, part of the Poetic Edda. He is the king of the giants (jötnar) and the main antagonist in the story. Þrymrs is known for his theft of Thor's hammer, Mjölnir. He hid the hammer and demanded Freya, the goddess of love and beauty, as his bride in exchange for its return. This demand initiated a plan by the gods to retrieve Mjölnir, which involved Thor disguising himself as Freya and Loki as her handmaiden. The story culminates in Thor, disguised and in his wedding attire, attacking and killing Þrymrs when the giant attempts to kiss his supposed bride. Þrymrs represents a typical jötunn antagonist, characterized by greed and a desire to disrupt the order maintained by the gods. His actions drive the narrative and highlight Thor's strength and resourcefulness, albeit through a humorous and somewhat undignified deception.
