Öljyvinegretit
Öljyvinegretit refers to a category of salad dressings primarily composed of oil and vinegar. The fundamental ratio of oil to vinegar in a vinaigrette is typically three parts oil to one part vinegar, though this can be adjusted to personal preference. The type of oil and vinegar used significantly influences the flavor profile. Common oils include olive oil, canola oil, and sunflower oil, while vinegars can range from red wine vinegar and balsamic vinegar to apple cider vinegar and white wine vinegar. Beyond the basic oil and vinegar components, vinaigrettes are often enhanced with seasonings such as salt, pepper, herbs (like parsley, chives, or dill), garlic, mustard, and sometimes sweeteners like honey or sugar. These additions are typically emulsified with the oil and vinegar, though the emulsion may separate over time. Vinaigrettes are versatile and can be used on a wide variety of salads, as marinades for meats and vegetables, or as a light dressing for cooked grains. Their preparation is generally simple, often involving whisking the ingredients together in a bowl or shaking them in a sealed container.
