Öljypumpen, or oil pump in English, is a crucial component in internal combustion engines and various mechanical systems. Its primary function is to circulate lubricating oil throughout the system to reduce friction and wear between moving parts. Without a functioning oil pump, critical engine components would quickly overheat and seize, leading to catastrophic failure.

In an internal combustion engine, the oil pump draws oil from the oil pan, also known as the sump, and delivers it under pressure to various parts of the engine, including bearings, crankshaft, camshaft, and piston rings. A worn or malfunctioning oil pump can lead to a drop in oil pressure, indicated by a warning light on the dashboard, which requires immediate attention.
