Öljynlevitysjärjestelmä, often translated as oil distribution system or oil supply system, refers to the mechanisms within an engine or machinery that ensure proper lubrication of moving parts. The primary function of such a system is to deliver lubricating oil to critical components, reducing friction, dissipating heat, and preventing wear.

These systems typically consist of several key components. A reservoir, or oil sump, stores the lubricating oil. An oil pump, often driven by the engine's crankshaft or camshaft, circulates the oil throughout the system. A filter is crucial for removing contaminants, such as metal particles and sludge, that can accumulate in the oil and cause damage. Oil passages, or galleries, within the engine block and cylinder head direct the oil to specific points requiring lubrication, such as bearings, camshafts, and piston rings.

In many internal combustion engines, the oil pump draws oil from the sump and forces it through the oil filter. From the filter, the pressurized oil flows through the oil galleries to lubricate the various engine components. Some systems may also incorporate an oil cooler to regulate the oil temperature, especially in high-performance or heavy-duty applications. The design and complexity of an oil distribution system can vary significantly depending on the type of engine or machinery, its operating conditions, and the specific lubrication requirements. Maintaining the oil and the system's components is vital for the longevity and performance of the machinery.
