ÖSYM

ÖSYM, or the Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi, is a Turkish government agency responsible for organizing and administering nationwide examinations for higher education admissions and for public-sector recruitment. The agency develops test content, administers examinations at centers across Turkey (and in some locations abroad), scores the tests, and handles the placement of successful candidates into universities or public positions. It publishes results and maintains related procedures.

The best-known examinations overseen by ÖSYM include the YKS, the national university entrance examination series introduced in 2018 that consolidates prior separate exams for undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as the Kamu Personeli Seçme Sınavı (KPSS) for civil service appointments. ÖSYM also organizes other professional, graduate, and language examinations as required by government guidelines. In addition to exam administration, ÖSYM provides scheduling, eligibility checks, and result announcements, and maintains the official results database used by higher education institutions and public agencies.

Headquartered in Ankara, ÖSYM operates under the supervision of the Turkish government and coordinates with universities and relevant ministries to implement standardized selection and placement processes.

Over the years, ÖSYM has undergone reforms to enhance security, reliability, and transparency of its examinations, including changes to test formats and electronic administration.
