Üleoptilised is a term used in Estonian to describe something that is beyond the optical or visible spectrum. It refers to phenomena or properties that cannot be perceived by the human eye using ordinary light. This can encompass a range of scientific concepts.

In physics, üleoptilised often relates to electromagnetic radiation. This includes ultraviolet (UV) light, infrared (IR) light, X-rays, and gamma rays. While these are all forms of light, their wavelengths are shorter or longer than what is visible to humans, placing them outside the üleoptilised range. Animals like bees can see into the UV spectrum, and snakes can detect infrared radiation, demonstrating that the "visible" spectrum is not universal.

The concept can also extend to other forms of detection. For instance, certain sounds fall into the üleoptilised category if they are above the human hearing range (ultrasonic) or below it (infrasonic). Similarly, magnetic fields or certain chemical signatures might be considered üleoptilised if they are not directly detectable by our senses without specialized instruments.
