Ähargaant, also known as the giant anteater, is a large mammal native to South America. It is the largest of the anteater species, with a body length of up to 2.5 meters and a weight of up to 50 kilograms. The giant anteater has a distinctive appearance, with a long, sticky tongue that it uses to extract ants and termites from their nests. Its tongue is covered in tiny, sticky hairs that can stretch up to 30 centimeters in length.

The giant anteater is primarily nocturnal, spending most of its time foraging for food. Its diet consists almost entirely of ants and termites, which it locates using its keen sense of smell. The anteater has a unique digestive system that allows it to break down the tough exoskeletons of its prey, enabling it to consume large quantities of insects.

Giant anteaters are solitary animals, except during the mating season. They are territorial and will defend their home range from other anteaters. The species is currently listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, primarily due to habitat loss and hunting. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the remaining populations of giant anteaters and their habitats.
