Ásványianyag, also known as mineral nutrient, is an essential element required by plants for growth and development. These nutrients are typically derived from the soil and are absorbed by plant roots through their root hairs. The primary mineral nutrients are divided into two categories: macronutrients and micronutrients.

Macronutrients are required in large quantities and include nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). Nitrogen is crucial for the synthesis of proteins and chlorophyll, phosphorus is essential for energy transfer and storage, and potassium plays a significant role in water and nutrient uptake, as well as enzyme activation.

Micronutrients, on the other hand, are required in smaller quantities and include iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), boron (B), molybdenum (Mo), and chlorine (Cl). These elements are involved in various metabolic processes, such as photosynthesis, respiration, and nitrogen fixation.

The availability of mineral nutrients in the soil can be influenced by various factors, including soil type, pH, organic matter content, and climate. Soil testing is often conducted to determine the nutrient status of the soil and to recommend appropriate fertilization practices. Balanced fertilization, which provides the right amounts of all essential nutrients, is crucial for maintaining soil fertility and promoting plant growth.

In addition to soil, mineral nutrients can also be supplied to plants through foliar application, which involves spraying nutrient solutions directly onto the leaves. This method can be particularly useful for correcting nutrient deficiencies in mature plants or for providing nutrients in situations where soil application is not feasible.
