Überdruckventile

Überdruckventile, also known as safety valves or relief valves, are mechanical devices designed to protect pressurized vessels or systems from over-pressurization. They operate by automatically opening when a predefined pressure threshold is reached, releasing excess pressure to prevent catastrophic failure. This release can be through venting fluid to the atmosphere or to a safe collection system.

The fundamental principle of an Überdruckventil relies on a balancing force. Typically, a spring holds a sealing element (like a disc or poppet) against a valve seat, preventing flow. When the system pressure exceeds the spring force, it lifts the sealing element, allowing fluid to escape. As the pressure drops back to a safe level, the spring force reasserts itself, closing the valve and restoring the seal.

Überdruckventile are crucial safety components in a wide range of applications, including boilers, pipelines, chemical processing equipment, and domestic water systems. Their design and material selection are critical and depend on factors such as the fluid being handled, operating temperature, and required opening pressure. Regular inspection and testing are essential to ensure their reliable operation. Different types exist, including direct-acting spring-loaded valves and pilot-operated valves, each offering specific advantages for certain applications.
