Etymology: The word is constructed for the setting, with suggested roots zúa- meaning circle or gathering, and -stni meaning movement or dance. Earliest fictional attestations appear in regional chronicles dated to the 12th century within the setting.

Practice: The performance is traditionally held at dusk in a public square or shorefront clearing. Participants form a circular or spiral pattern and perform a sequence of coordinated steps, hand signs, and stomps. Music comes from percussion, flutes, and horn-like instruments; costumes include dyed fabrics and natural pigments.
