yleispalvelu
Yleispalvelu, literally meaning public or general service, is a Finnish concept describing the public service obligations of the national broadcasting company Yleisradio (YLE). It encompasses the aim to provide independent, high-quality, and diverse programming to all residents of Finland across multiple platforms, including radio, television, and online services. The public service remit covers news and current affairs, cultural and educational programming, children’s content, and programming that reflects Finland’s regional and linguistic diversity. Accessibility is a core principle, with provisions for subtitles, sign language interpretation, and content suitable for people with disabilities.
The public service mandate is established by Finnish law, including the Broadcasting Act and related legislation
Yleispalvelu is exercised through YLE’s network of television and radio channels, as well as digital platforms,
