Vércsoportot refers to a person's blood type, a classification of blood based on inherited properties of red blood cells. These properties are determined by the presence or absence of specific antigens on the surface of red blood cells. The most common and clinically significant blood group systems are the ABO system and the Rh system.

In the ABO system, blood types are categorized as A, B, AB, or O. This classification depends on the presence or absence of A and B antigens on the red blood cells. Type A blood has A antigens, type B has B antigens, type AB has both A and B antigens, and type O has neither. The plasma of individuals with each blood type contains corresponding antibodies. For example, type A individuals have anti-B antibodies, type B individuals have anti-A antibodies, type AB individuals have neither anti-A nor anti-B antibodies, and type O individuals have both anti-A and anti-B antibodies.

The Rh system is another important blood group system. It is primarily determined by the presence or absence of the RhD antigen, also known as the D antigen. Individuals with the RhD antigen are considered Rh-positive (Rh+), while those without it are Rh-negative (Rh-). Combined with the ABO system, this gives rise to eight common blood types: A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+, and O-. Blood type compatibility is crucial for blood transfusions and organ transplants to prevent potentially life-threatening immune reactions.
