viidelle

Viidelle is a fictional genus of flowering plants used in speculative botany and world-building contexts. It is described as part of the plant family Asteraceae in fictional taxonomic tradition and is not present in real-world flora.

The most-discussed species, Viidelle cerulea, is a perennial herb reaching 20–60 cm, with slender, elliptic leaves and composite flower heads featuring blue ray florets surrounding a yellow central disc. The plant exhibits a sticky resin on its stems and a robust rhizome system.

Habitat and ecology: native to the montane cloud forests of the fictional region of Valara, at elevations of 1,200–2,100 meters. It prefers shaded, well-drained soils and forms loose understory stands. Pollination is primarily by bees, and seed dispersal occurs by wind aided by a light hair on the pappus.

Taxonomy and etymology: Viidelle was described by botanist L. Siverian in a 2560 field note, and the name is derived from the Viido language, meaning "blue flower."

In culture and conservation: In its imagined world, Viidelle cerulea is used ornamentally and features in folklore as a symbol of endurance. Conservation concerns arise in the narrative due to habitat loss from fictional logging. In-world efforts include seed banking and ex situ cultivation at botanical gardens.
