Vienaskaita is a linguistic term referring to the singular grammatical number, used to denote one entity or one instance. In Lithuanian, vienaskaita is contrasted with dauiskaita, the plural form used for more than one entity. The concept underpins the agreement of words within a phrase, affecting nouns, adjectives, pronouns, numerals, and verb forms.

In Lithuanian, nouns change form according to number, gender, and case, and this number distinction is reflected in accompanying words. Adjectives agree with the noun in number and case, so phrases in vienaskaita use singular adjective endings, while phrases in dauiskaita use plural endings. Pronominal forms also mark number, with singular pronouns for one person or thing and plural pronouns for more than one. Verbs further encode number in the present and other tenses, producing different forms for singular and plural subjects.

Examples help illustrate the distinction. In singular: namas yra didelis (The house is large) uses a singular noun and a singular adjective. In plural: namai yra dideli (The houses are large) uses a plural noun and plural adjective. Pronouns follow the same rule: jis (he) is singular, jie (they) is plural. Verbs likewise change with subject number: aš einu (I go) versus mes einame (we go).
