Vevsmikroskopi, meaning tissue microscopy, is a fundamental technique in histology and pathology. It involves the microscopic examination of biological tissues to study their structure and cellular composition. The process typically begins with obtaining a tissue sample, which can be a biopsy or a surgical specimen. This sample is then preserved, often through fixation, to prevent degradation.

Following fixation, the tissue is usually embedded in a supportive medium, such as paraffin wax or frozen resin, to allow for thin sectioning. These thin sections, typically a few micrometers thick, are then mounted onto glass slides. To enhance visibility of cellular and tissue components, the slides are stained with various dyes. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) is a common staining combination, with hematoxylin staining cell nuclei blue and eosin staining cytoplasm and extracellular matrix pink.

The stained slides are then viewed under a light microscope. Pathologists and researchers use vevsmikroskopi to diagnose diseases, understand biological processes, and conduct research. Deviations from normal tissue architecture, cellular abnormalities, or the presence of pathogens can be identified.
