The calculation of verðlagsstuðlar typically involves comparing the current price level to a base price level from a specific reference period. This comparison results in a multiplier that is then applied to the original nominal amount. The Central Bank of Iceland or Statistics Iceland often publishes the relevant indices and guidance on how to apply these adjustment factors. While beneficial for preserving value, the use of verðlagsstuðlar can also contribute to the persistence of inflation if not managed carefully within broader economic policies.
