Ventrículos are hollow spaces within the brain that are filled with cerebrospinal fluid. In humans, there are four main ventricles: the two lateral ventricles, the third ventricle, and the fourth ventricle. The lateral ventricles are the largest and are located in each cerebral hemisphere. They connect to the third ventricle, which is a narrow cavity in the center of the brain, via small openings called the interventricular foramina. The third ventricle then communicates with the fourth ventricle through a narrow channel known as the cerebral aqueduct. The fourth ventricle is situated between the pons and the cerebellum and tapers down to connect with the central canal of the spinal cord.

These ventricles play a crucial role in the production, circulation, and absorption of cerebrospinal fluid. This fluid acts as a cushion for the brain and spinal cord, protecting them from injury. It also helps to nourish brain tissue by transporting nutrients and removing waste products. The choroid plexuses, located within the ventricles, are responsible for producing cerebrospinal fluid. The fluid then flows through the ventricular system and eventually exits into the subarachnoid space, where it is reabsorbed into the bloodstream. Any disruption to this delicate balance can lead to conditions such as hydrocephalus, characterized by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid.
